Cottage Cheese Ideas

On our recent food post, a question was asked - how do you eat cottage cheese? Some people just cannot tolerate it plain.

Here is a recipe that I have tried and like. Now, if it's a texture thing for you, you just may be SOL, but give it a try if it at all sounds good.

Hamburger meat browned & seasoned with Taco seasoning
Spoon over some cottage cheese
Top with shredded cheddar or taco blend cheese
Heat in microwave to melt shredded cheese. Stir & enjoy

Also, think mock lasagna & mix some with marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and shredded mozarella. Also heat and mix.

I've also been known to sweeten it with fruit preserves, but I've really got to be in the mood for that one.

Does anyone else have a favorite way to eat it other than plain?

I'm a big fan of adding fruit to cottage cheese. My favorites are peaches or applesauce. I also really like eating SF jello with cottage cheese. It gives the fruity flavor but no additional calories.

Oh Wendy! Now you're talkin' my language! My mom cans peaches every year and they are the BEST with cottage cheese. Yum yum yum!

HIJACK (since I don't have a lot to add about cottage cheese since I'm not a big fan of it, lol)...

Annnnywayyyyy Amy, I just have to say I'm SO excited to see you were able to have the DS!   Your hard work and persistance paid off.  Congrats on being a "loser" now!  I'm so excited for you and can't wait to see your post-op journey unfold!

I have become a big fan of adding Bacos to my cottage cheese.  It adds a crunchy component as well as some additional protein.  I usually add about 2 tablespoons to 1/2 cup of cottage cheese.  Be sure to keep them separate until you are ready to eat- otherwise the Bacos get kind of mushy.

Thank goodness for the Gladware 1/2 cup containers!!

I love eating cottage cheese, yogurt and cereal (hi protein usually). I learned this long ago in WW. It is tasty, crunchy and satisfying. If I have some fresh fruit, I'll add a little of that too. For my son, I layer in parfait glass and top with dollop of cool whip and he LOVES this.
